Why LED?

A light emitting diode (LED) is a very long life light which is the most energy efficient street light system available anywhere in the world today. Conventional gas discharge or incandescant lights have served us faithfully for generations, but they rely on tungsten halogen, mercury and sodium vapour or compact fluorescent, to produce their light. All these light sources have mercury or lead in their composition making them increasingly difficult to dispose of under current guidelines and they all produce ultra violet light.

Technology has advanced to a point where LED’s or light emitting diodes are set to become the standard light source for the 21st century.

ENERGY & COST EFFICIENCY:
LEDs consume far less energy than standard light bulbs, achieving up to a 2/3 reduction in energy costs. LEDs also require less heat energy to operate, further reducing energy costs through air conditioning and obviously reducing the environmental impact through reduced carbon emissions.

Whilst the initial capital cost is slightly higher than traditional alternatives, LED lighting offers significant savings in the long term in terms of reduced energy, consumption, heat load and maintenance costs.

LONG LIFE:
Even in hostile conditions, the typical working life of an LED can be up to 50,000 hours. Standard "length of life" is + 50,000 hours. LEDs don't suddenly burn out like gas dishcharge light sources. At 30,000 hours, LED’s are still performing at 70% of their original illumination level whish is greater than three times the performance of its competition.

RELIABILITY:
The filament in a normal bulb is very fragile, easily broken by a sudden shock, lightning or voltage spikes where as LED’s are encased in virtually unbreakable high strength optical grade resin. There is no glass or filament to break, making LED light sources perfect for rugged or demanding environments or installations where access is difficult or the incidence of vandalism is high.

ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY:
Switching to low energy, solid state lighting benefits the environment. The low power requirements of LED light sources make them ideal for solar or wind powered installations.

It also generates no harmful UV, lead or mercury in its manufacture, and have no disposal problems. Lightsense range of LED's currently meet all government guidelines.

BETTER SAFETY AND SECURITY:
The low level of heat produced and low voltages used by LEDs make them a far safer source of light. No glass to break, no hot filament, no gas or candle flames and no noxious fumes. Sealed in resin the diodes are shockproof and waterproof.

LEDs are extremely durable, polycarbonate lenses, with no ballast or igniter – relatively maintenance free. You will see colors truly represented as they are seen during daylight hours.
